Last month I touched on my love for the Jersey Shore. This month I want to touch on the beauty and possibility of enjoying the summertime right here in our backyards.
When the summer sun graces Bucks County, the region comes alive with endless possibilities for enchanting adventures. From exploring historic sites to savoring farm-fresh delights, you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area. Bucks County has always offered an array of experiences that capture the essence of summertime bliss creating unforgettable memories.
Exploring Historic Landmarks:
Steeped in history, Bucks County is a haven for history buffs and curious explorers. Take a journey back in time with a visit to the iconic Washington Crossing Historic Park, where George Washington famously crossed the Delaware River. Then shuffle down River Road and immerse yourself in the colonial charm of New Hope, with its quaint streets and incredible restaurants. Then head to Doylestown and discover the Mercer Museum, a unique six-story concrete castle filled with fascinating artifacts. From Pennsbury Manor to Fonthill Castle, Bucks County’s historic landmarks offer a captivating glimpse into the past, allowing you to connect with the rich heritage of the region. And that only named a few.
Now let’s talk about Outdoor Adventures:
With its scenic landscapes, Bucks County is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Embark on a kayaking adventure down the Delaware River, soaking in the views as you paddle through pristine waters. Hike the picturesque trails of Washington Crossing State Park or Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, where you can witness the beauty of wildflowers. If you’re a cyclist, you can explore the winding paths of the Delaware Canal State Park, offering a serene escape along the canal towpath. Whether it’s fishing, boating, hiking, or cycling, Bucks County’s outdoor wonders lend you to embrace the beauty of nature and enjoy summer activities.
Farm-to-Table Delights:
Bucks County’s farmlands yield a bounty of fresh produce, and summertime is the perfect season to savor the region’s farm-to-table delights. Visit the local farmers’ markets, such as the bustling Wrightstown and Doylestown Farmers Markets. Indulge in the flavors of locally grown fruits, vegetables, artisanal cheeses, and homemade preserves. Discover farm stands along scenic roads, where you can handpick the juiciest of berries or enjoy a scoop of homemade ice cream. Take a leisurely drive along the Bucks County Wine Trail, sampling exquisite wines crafted from locally grown grapes. I have always loved the farm-to-table philosophy. Bucks County has truly become a space to let your taste buds revel.
Experience Culture:
Bucks County’s vibrant cultural scene offers a delightful array of experiences to enrich your summer days. Attend a performance at the historic Bucks County Playhouse, where Broadway-quality shows grace the stage. Attend a movie at the Newtown Theatre, the area’s oldest theatre. Explore the Michener Art Museum, housing a collection of exceptional American art, or visit local galleries showcasing the talents of Bucks County’s artists. Take on one of the outdoor concerts and music festivals held throughout the county, from charming town squares to picturesque vineyards.
Summer in Bucks County is magical. I have often felt I leave the area only to spend a lot of money on vacations in other countries, cities, states, etc.. only to come home and realize, the natural beauty and vibrant experiences all exist right here in the magic of Bucks County.
My hope is that all of you will create unforgettable summer memories that will last a lifetime.
