Sean Yseult – the co-founder of the multi-million-selling, MTV VMA-winning, and Grammy-nominated heavy metal band White Zombie – recently visited School of Rock Doylestown to meet and perform with 14 of the School’s student musicians.
“I was extremely impressed with the level of skill that each student had with their instrument,” says Yseult, who was White Zombie’s original bassist as well as one of the band’s songwriters. “The students were well rehearsed and ready to perform. I’ve never seen young kids play in a rock band with such skill and dexterity. They were all hard working and no messing around – in one word, badasses!”
Yseult co-founded White Zombie in 1985 with Rob Zombie, while the two were students at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. The band’s platinum-selling albums La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One (1992) and Astro-Creep: 2000 (1995) established them as an influential act in groove metal and industrial metal. After the foursome broke up in 1998, Yseult built a career as an internationally recognized designer and award-winning photographer. Her book “I’m In The Band”, which chronicles her years with White Zombie, is a top-rated selection on Amazon, GoodReads, and Barnes & Noble.
“The School of Rock performance-based music education approach is doing something right for sure,” says Yseult, who shared details about her diverse accomplishments and artistic journey and performed the White Zombie hits “Soulcrusher”, “Black Sunshine”, and “Thunder Kiss ‘65” with the SoR Doylestown students during her visit. “When I was ready to learn bass and start a rock band, I had no guidance – I just had to try to find like-minded people and figure it out. If School of Rock had been around, I would have been the first person in my hometown to sign up – what a great opportunity!”
In early 2023, Yseult will launch a new design line of wallpaper and fabrics that will be available at Spruce, a boutique showroom in New Orleans, as well as a clothing line. Following the success of her three recent photography exhibits of her show “Dorveille”, she is now working on a new photography show for 2024.
